A frantic call in the late evening of Christmas day… “We need a photograph, and we need it ASAP” says the frantic art director on the other end of the line.
“I know it is the holidays, but one of our editors just sprung this on us and we don’t have anything we can use. Can you get us a shot by Monday?”
Calmly you set your hot cider with rum down on the edge of the counter and think for a moment. You have some time, but need some more information to know whether you can do the shot or not.
So, because you have been a Project 52 photographer for nearly a year now, you respond with the questions you know to ask.
The photo is to accompany an article on “The New Year – Fireworks or Fizzle”. Will 2013 usher in fantastic new opportunities or will it be a financial flub? The AD says the article is more questions than answers, so you can choose both or either as your approach.
It will be a vertical image, full page, to accompany the article. It will be used on the web as well, but not sure yet how. It can have people or not, and subject matter can be anything other than liquor, a clock, fireworks or any kind of ball dropping from above.
Oh… and they do not want a black background if it is a still life.
The art director then says, “I am calling on you because I know you can do some creative imagineering. I will not be able to contact you after today because I will be in Vermont skiing. Just do your best shot, I trust you.”
OK… there ya go.
“The New Year – Fireworks or Fizzle” (and remember no fireworks in the image).
Due January 9th by showtime. Please have it in the thread before we start the show.
